Viticulture:

Hand harvested from the family owned Wairau valley vineyard. Soil in the vineyard is free draining, stony silt loam with layers of silt at depth. The vines were vertically trained on a 2 cane canopy. Shoots were thinned in early spring and crop thinning was conducted just as the fruit began to ripen.

Winemaking:

The grapes were de-stemmed, cold soaked for a week then wild fermented in open topped stainless steel fermenters, The skins were hand plunged during fermentation for 2 weeks then pressed, settled and matured without the use of oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and 10 months maturation.

Tasting Notes:

This is an un-oaked style showcasing the bright fruit nature of Marlborough Pinot Noir. The colour is a bright ruby/garnet with purple hues. The nose shows lifted raspberry, cherry and strawberry fruit with a background spicy note of cloves and white pepper. The palate has a positive sweet red fruit entry with a suggestion of savoury spice. Fine grained silky tannins and well balanced acidity give the wine focus, drive and length.

Cellaring:

Cellaring potential up to 5 years. Best to drink 2014 to 2018.

Food
Accompaniments:

A perfect wine to enjoy with Mediterranean cuisine, spicy lamb dishes, grilled or roast vegetables, pasta and soft, salty cheese.
